The Cost of having a baby without Insurance so far!

We found ourselves having to be private because we were not aware of the fact that you have to be with a medical aid company for more than twelve months before being able to claim maternity benefits. So these prices are from Panorama Medi-clinic and not valid or applicable for public hospitals.

Doctors fee's

Dr. no 1 Total for first visit, urine stick (which wasn't even used) and ultrasound = R 790.00
Dr. Atzl  Total for first visit with ultrasound = R 750.00
Dr. Atzl Total for visit excluding ultrasound = R 280.00
Dr. Atzl fee for normal delivery = R 5 800.00

Anaethetists for Epidural = Approx. R 3500.00

Paeditrician for delivery and 3 days after delivery check-ups = Approx. R1900.00

Pathcare First blood tests for haemoglobin, antibodies and bloodtype = R 169.50

Hopsital Fee's

Panoama Medi-clinic

Normal Birth

1st day = R8209.20
Subsequent days =  R2782.70 including nursery fee's.
Epidural =  R1652.50 excluding doctors fee.
Length of stay = 3 days
Deposit = R19 000.00

Date of admission and date of discharge are each considered as a full day - irrespective of admission/discharge time.

Caesarian deposit = R 23 000.00

Private ward = R 600.00 per day extra (Which is not bad considering daddy's not restricted to visiting hours!)
Luxury suite = R1350.00 per day extra ( Which is not bad considering daddy can stay over)
Private wards and luxury suites are available on a first come first serve basis. In general ward there are about four beds.

  1. I am also going to be a Mediclinic mommy this time. Thank you for this wonderful breakdown. My friend actually asked me about 2 months ago hat it would cost without insurance. I sent her your page now and I will also be adding your blog to my blog so other ladies can reference it. Keep up the great blog hun.
